about the laboratory

The laboratory of modification and synthesis of materials, led by Prof. Alexander Pogrebnjak, specializes in a diverse array of cutting-edge topics at the forefront of materials science research. Particularly, the focus is on the synthesis and characterization of 2D carbides/nitrides, known as MXenes, contributing to the advancement of materials with remarkable properties and functionalities. The laboratory is deeply involved in biomaterials research, encompassing the development of micro- and nanoparticles, surface functionalization, and the exploration of polymeric biomaterials for biomedical applications.

Scientists employ advanced techniques such as DC/pulse magnetron sputtering and ion/electron beam ablation technologies to deposit hydroxyapatite (HA) and ceramic coatings, catering to various applications in biomaterials and beyond. Another research topic is connected with plasma-spraying (including detonation method) and electro-spark technologies for the sputtering and alloying of diverse materials, ensuring versatility and precision in our fabrication processes.

Furthermore, the laboratory is vigorously engaged in the modification of material structures and properties through the utilization of intense pulsed ion beams, electron beams, and pulsed plasma flows. Additionally, the laboratory team excels in the design, development, and investigation of nanostructured multicomponent coatings with high hardness, thermal stability, and wear resistance. Moreover, expertise extends to the realm of high and intensive implantation techniques, employed to enhance the properties of both metallic and semiconductor materials, paving the way for innovative product development.

With an interdisciplinary approach and commitment to excellence, our laboratory of modification and synthesis of materials strives to push the boundaries of materials science and engineering for the benefit of society.
