Short description

MXene is a new class of nanolaminates, which are transition metal carbides and carbonitrides. This class of substances was discovered in 2011 by a scientist of Ukrainian origin, Yuri Gogotsi, and is the most promising material, which in terms of its properties exceeds graphene and is used in development of electrical capacitors, nanosensors, flexible electronics, antennas, etc. In recent years, prospects for the use of MXene in medicine have opened up, in particular as an antitumor agent, drug carrier, antibacterial and antiviral agent, medical electrodes, etc. At the same time, the fundamental mechanisms of MXene’s interaction with biological systems, its biocompatibility, immunogenicity, general toxicity, and metabolic pathways have not been systematically studied to date.

The project is aimed to investigate the mechanisms of interaction of MXene with biological systems, in particular establishing the biocompatibility and toxicity of various MXenes that have prospects for use in medicine (Ti3C2, Ti3C2Tx, Nb2C, Ta4C3). Data will be obtained on ex-vivo and in-vivo immune responses, their metabolic pathways and overall toxicity, and their potential for antitumor and antibacterial therapy.
